3 Months with Mila Jane

Our baby girl just turned 3 months old and I just never ever ever want to forget this season. I actually put time on my calendar to write an update every month for the first year of her life, but here we are 3 months in and it’s my first time sitting down to write - whoops! Here’s been some of our favorite little things about our Mila girl since bringing her home from the hospital:

  • Her baby coo’s. Ryan and I must have said a million times when we were in the hospital how much we loved her coo’s. She sadly quit doing them about a week or two after she was born!

  • Taking Mila to her first doctors appointment. I don’t know why, it just felt special. Ryan and I went together. It was our first outing the morning after we got home from the hospital. It was chilly as heck. The office staff were so kind and we absolutely loved her pediatrician!

  • Mila’s birthday explosion for Uncle Matt. Will never forget at 6 days old when Uncle Matt & Aunt Kari came over to celebrate Matthew’s birthday. We threw party hats on everyone, and as we handed Mila to Matthew for a photo, she let out the BIGGEST, LONGEST, WETTEST explosion. A birthday gift he’ll never forget - way to go, Mila!

  • Having my Dad live so close. I can’t even fully explain how grateful I am to have “Papa” so close. Having him come by just about every day when Mila arrived, even if it was just for a quick visit, meant so much to me. He was our biggest helper when we got home from the hospital and is quickly becoming Mila’s favorite buddy.

  • The facial expressions when she needs to poop. The absolute best. Flexes every muscle in her body, including her face. Picture sumo-wrestler. I’ll never get over it.

  • Her lips! Ryan and I are both obsessed with her cute little kissable lips.

  • And her killer blue eyes. They remind me of my mom so much! I hope they stay!

  • Days when Ryan works from home. Ryan got a few weeks of paternity leave which we are so grateful for. He used about a week up front and saved a week for later down the road! On days when Ryan got to work from home, I loved seeing him snuggle with Mila at his desk. He would put her in her Moses basket and set her next to him or have her swaddled sitting in his lap while he typed away.

  • Taking her to watch her Dad play tennis. We did this a few times just to get out of the house. So fun! And Ryan gave me my first tennis lesson woohoo!

  • When she falls asleep on our chest. Ryan is a sucker for when she falls asleep on him on the couch in the evenings. She’ll spread her arms across his chest like a big bear hug and breathes in and out the cutest sleepy breathes.

  • Her sleeping positions. When Mila transitioned to daycare, she also had to transition out of her swaddle. It was something I was so nervous about, but she honestly did great and the transition was smooth! Our favorite thing now is that she sleeps with her arms high above her head. Ryan says she looks like she just got caught robbing someone! I think she does it to say, “look at me, I’m swaddle free!”

  • When her pacifier half falls out and hangs on her bottom lip while she sleeps. Also, her sweet limp body when we carry her to her crib.

  • Her cute crooked smile. This is Ryan’s favorite. It’s this sweet little grin - when you see it, you know it! She does it most often in the morning. My favorite is when she does it when we first peep over her bassinet/crib in the morning!

  • Bath time with rubber ducky! Within the last month, she’s REALLY loved bath time. We love watching her go a little crossed-eyed staring at the rubber ducky on her belly and trying to wiggle it off. She’ll flex her booty real tight, kick her legs and throw up her belly to knock rubber ducky off, over and over and over again.

  • Her BIG smiles. There’s the crooked smile, and then there’s the BIG smile. They’ve officially become intentional (not accidental smiles like in her early days). I especially love when we make a funny noise and she gives a big ol’ smile with her tongue out.

  • Her giggles. And squeals. The best. Not sure if they are intentional yet, but she sure does have the cutest laugh. One night in particular, she woke us up at 3AM giggling and screaming SO loud in her bassinet. Must have been a funny dream :)

  • The way she looks at Ryan. My heart could melt.

  • Tummy time! She liked this more when she was first born - now she takes after her momma - not about that work-out life.

  • “Awake” time! Baby girl sure loves to sleep so the times when she’s awake are so much fun. Seeing her get excited when she lays under her jungle gym is probably my favorite. But it’s a close tie with bath time.

A few other BIG things we did in Mila’s first 3 months:

  • Her first roadtrip to Austin, Texas. We met some dear friends, and laid poolside all weekend at an Airbnb. It was also her first time staying in a travel crib and she did AWESOME.

  • A family trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma. We went for 3 nights with Papa, Matt, Kari & Tuck! Mila’s first waterfall!
